Rewritten for the Better: The History of Toy Story.

Image
By: Josh Stephen. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to The History and Production of Pixar Classics. Today we're gonna talk about the film that started it all: Toy Story.   Released in 1995, Toy Story is Pixar's very first full length animated film, and highly regarded as one of the best movies in their catalogue, but if it's original draft was released to the public instead of the one we got, animated movies as a medium may not be what they are today. And like always, for those who may not have seen this movie, which I highly doubt is anyone at all at the time of writing, I'll give a brief recap of this movie for you before we dive into it's production history any further. Toy Story is a movie about a cowboy doll named Woody who has been the leader of a group of toys who belong to a boy named Andy, due to being his favorite toy. One day, a new toy becomes Andy's favorite, Buzz Lightyear. An action figure with a crazy amount of features, from lasers, to wings, a...

By: Josh Stephen. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to The History and Production of Pixar Classics. Today we're gonna talk about The Incredibles. Just like last time, I'll give you all a brief recap on the film before we dive into the challenges it took to make it happen. The Incredibles is a 2004 Pixar animated film directed by Brad Bird, that follows the story of Robert "Bob" Parr (Formerly Mr. Incredible), a used-to-be superhero who was forced to give up superheroing 15 years ago due to lots of legal issues involving superheroes, realizing that his family is more important than recapturing the past, and his family, Helen (Formerly Elastagirl), Violet, and Dash trying to track Bob down. The main challenges the team faced were figuring out how to animate humans and human hair correctly, animating different the different superpowers, the massive sets and many setpieces, and also improving the fire/lighting and water physics in Renderman, which is a lot of first's...

Just Keep Swimming: The Production of Finding Nemo.

Image
By: Josh Stephen. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to The History and Production of Pixar Classics. Today, we're going to talk about the production of Finding Nemo. But before we dive straight into this, I'll give you some background information about the film in case you've never seen it before. Finding Nemo came to theaters in 2003, and is the fifth movie in PIXAR's catalogue. The movie is about two orange clownfish, a father, and a son, who get separated. The father, Marlin, embarks on an epic journey throughout the ocean to find his son, Nemo, with the help of a blue tang named Dory, played by Ellen DeGeneres, while Nemo learns how to overcome his fears without his father. The main challenges that the team faced was learning how to actually adapt the visuals of undersea life into their animation software, Renderman, and better adapting the full screenplay that writer/director Andrew Stanton had written. To adapt the visuals, the team had to lean less into the photo...

The History and Making of Pixar Movies

Image
Hello everyone. My name is Josh. I am a college student pursuing a Bachelor of the Arts in Mass Media, with a concentration on Film & Video. This is The History and Production of Pixar Classics. On this blog, I will talk about various different Pixar movies, and how the creative minds at Pixar Animation Studios brought their ideas to life, and the challenges they faced along the way. I created this blog because I wanted to share my passion for this studio, and the hard work that they've done. I've been watching their films since I was a kid, and have always been interested in the way they make them. This blog is intended for those who want to learn more about the animated filmmaking process, or just really love Pixar, and want to learn as much about them as they can. Either way, I have something in store for you here. Anyways, that's all for now. Until next time! Pictured below: A group of guests walking into Pixar Studios at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
